Police Regional Office MIMAROPA Director, Police Brigadier General Sidney Sultan Hernia, commended the anti-insurgency efforts of the government security forces that led to the recovery several explosive materials and ammunition in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro on Friday, September 9.
Police report revealed that composite elements from the Philippine National Police and Philippine Army were conducting joint combat operations when they recovered six improvised hand grenades, 47 pieces of live 7.62 ammunition, 120 pieces of caliber 5.56 ammunition, and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components, including a 9-meter long shock tube, a 15-meter long solid wire, a 4-meter stranded wire, 1/4 kilo of ammonium nitrate, assorted nails, bolts and nuts, duct tape and one canister of an improvised landmine, in a suspected NPA encampment located at Sitio Alyanon, Barangay Lisap, Bongabong, of the said province.
PNP-SAF bomb technicians took custody of the recovered IED materials for proper disposal while the live ammunition was placed under the safekeeping of the 10th SAB for proper disposition.
“The recovery of these explosives and ammunition clearly signifies that our enemies’ sanctuary gets narrower as days pass by, and we are projecting the end of local communist armed conflict the soonest possible time”, PBGen Hernia said.
“We renew our call to all our brothers and sisters deceived by false ideologies of CPP-NPA-NDF to abandon the armed struggle and return to the folds of the law. Rest assured that the government will provide them assistance in availing the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program which will help them have a better start with their respective families”, PBGen Hernia added.
