The Department of Health – Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Mimaropa reported a total of 25 fireworks-related injuries (FWRIs) in Mimaropa region since the beginning of its surveillance on December 21.
Of the total, three took place in Occidental Mindoro; 13 recorded in Oriental Mindoro and three occurred each in Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan provinces respectively.
DOH-CHD Mimaropa OIC Regional Director Dr. Mario Baquilod, in a press statement said that “Oplan: Iwas Paputok, Fireworks Display ang Patok! Makiisa sa Fireworks Display sa inyong Lugar” is the banner theme of the agency to promote “zero-firecracker injuries” in the region. The said theme is anchored on Executive Order (EO) No. 28 or the Regulation and Control of the Use of Firecrackers and other Pyrotechnic Devices.
Through the EO, the general public are encouraged to use firecrackers and fireworks in designated areas under the supervision of individuals trained by the Philippine National Police (PNP). (Lisabelle Carpio/PIA-MIMAROPA)
