The Department of Education (DepEd) said Grade 6 completers of school year 2018-2019 will have a graduation ceremony.
In a statement on Saturday, DepEd clarified that it has issued DepEd Order No. 2, series 2019 or the School Year 2018-2019 K to 12 Basic Education Program End of School Year Rites on February 18, which confirms the conduct of graduation ceremonies for Grade 6 completers.
“This original Order by the Secretary has in fact already been circulated before an unauthorized change—from ‘graduation’ to ‘moving-up’ ceremony for Grade 6 learners—was done by personnel who, in good faith, believed they were only making a correction,” the statement read.
Stressing that the change was unauthorized and “without basis”, DepEd said the agency has yet to decide about the matter.
“Should a decision to change be made, it will not be implemented this school year to allow sufficient time for information and preparation by field units,” the statement read.
To reinstate the original order, DepEd issued DepEd Memorandum 25, series 2019 or Graduation Ceremony for Grade 6 Completers in School Year 2018-2019 last Saturday. (Ma. Teresa Montemayor/PNA)
