President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a resident of Bataan as the new Regional Director of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Mimaropa.
Engineer Wilfredo Mallari of Balanga City in Bataan will assume the post on Monday to replace outgoing Regional Director Danilo Dequito who has retired.
Mallari was DPWH Assistant Regional Director of Mimaropa for a year prior to his promotion.
On record, Mallari gets the distinction of being the first Bataeno to become regional director of DPWH.
Mimaropa is composed of the provinces of Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan and the cities of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro and Puerto Princesa in Palawan.
The new regional head promised to speedily but carefully implement infrastructure projects under the “Build, Build, Build” program of President Duterte through consultations with the Regional Development Council.
Mallari is not new to implementing projects being district engineer in Bataan’s first district for 14 years and in Las Pinas – Muntinlupa, Metro Manila for three years.
He rose from the ranks starting as part-time civil engineering aide in 1975 while studying at the Adamson University in Manila.
The new Regional Director became a regular employee of DPWH, then the Ministry of Public Works and Highways in December 1977 after graduating and passing the Board of Civil Engineers in April of the same year. (Ernie Esconde, PNA)
