After the postponement of the MIMAROPA’s RSPC last December due to typhoon Urduja, finally it has now came to the moment of truth. The 2017 Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) was held last January 21-24, 2018 at Angel’s Hills, Tagaytay City. The theme for this year’s RSPC is “Embracing ASEAN Integration: Campus Journalists’ Role in Advancing Inclusive Education.”
This year’s RSPC was attended by about a thousand of delegates from different divisions in MIMAROPA region. Campus journalists from MIMAROPA were gathered on the hall for the opening ceremony. Delegates from Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Calapan City, Marinduque, Puerto Princesa City and Romblon are present on the said event. On January 22 and 23 was the contest proper for both individual and group contests.
The individual contests for both elementary and secondary and both English and Filipino category are news writing, sports writing, scitech writing, photojournalism, feature writing, copyreading and headline writing, editorial cartooning and editorial writing. For group contests, Tagisan ng Talino, Radio Broadcasting, TV Broadcasting and Collaborative Desktop Publishing.
On the last day of RSPC, the most awaited part which is the awarding ceremony occured. Of course, campus journalists from the Division of Romblon were very competitive on this event. Some of the awards that the Division of Romblon garnered are:
Tagisan ng Talino (Secondary level) – Champion, team was composed by Angelo James Fababeir, Jude Lope and Denver Patnongon from Banton NHS. Mark Angelo A. Sealongo, representative of elementary received 4th place. Sofia Nichole Salivio from Guinhaya-an Elementary School is also a champion in Photojournalism (English category). Editorial writing (Filipino category) 4th place, News writing (English category) 1st place, Scitech writing (Filipino category) 2nd place, Sports writing (English category) 1st place.
For secondary: Photojournalism (English category) Romblon won 4th place, Sports writing (English category), Abegail Recto from Magdiwang NHS won as 1st placer, Scitech writing (English category) 6th place. For editorial writing (Filipino category), Sherilyn Vivar from Magdiwang NHS won as 2nd placer, Feature writing (Filipino category), Shane Fabellon from Calatrava NHS won as 5th placer. Faith Notario from Odiongan NHS won as 1st placer in Copyreading and Headline Writing (Filipino category).
The top 3 of individual contests and top 1 of group contests will represent the MIMAROPA region on the upcoming National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) that will be held in Dumaguete City on February 19-23, 2018.
Truly, students from division of Romblon excel in campus journalism and it is a great honor for the Romblon’s campus journalists to represent the MIMAROPA region in the National level.
