The House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon agreed to postpone the country’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (village and youth council) elections to the fourth Monday of October 2017.
This was the consensus during an all-member House caucus led by Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and Majority Floor Leader Rodolfo Fariñas.
Fariñas said the House bill seeking to defer both elections to Oct. 23, 2017 will be filed during Tuesday’s plenary session. The committees on suffrage and electoral reforms will begin their deliberations on the same day.
“This is what the Senate has filed and this is what we will adopt,” Fariñas said.
Fariñas expects the second reading to be finished next week, while the third and final reading on Sept. 12. (Filane Mikee Cervantes/PNA)
