The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) MIMAROPA has successfully installed 10 new Free Wi-Fi sites across various public areas in Romblon, furthering the government’s goal of improving internet accessibility in remote and underserved communities.
In a Facebook post, DICT Romblon confirmed that the newly established Free Wi-Fi hotspots are now available in strategic locations, including schools, barangay halls, and hospitals. These locations were chosen to provide students, educators, healthcare workers, and the general public with reliable internet access for education, work, and communication.
According to DICT, the Free Wi-Fi program aims to bridge the digital divide by ensuring that even those in far-flung areas can stay connected. The agency emphasized that access to stable internet is crucial in today’s digital age, where online learning, remote work, and virtual communication have become essential.
The newly activated Free Wi-Fi zones include Romblon National Institute of Technology, Pinamihagan National High School, Agnocnoc Barangay Hall, Don Modesto Formilleza Sr. Memorial Hospital, Palje Barangay Hall, Agnipa Barangay Hall, Carmen National High School, Don Carlos M. Meijas Memorial National High School, Tranquilino Cawaling Sr. National High School, and Concepcion Sur Elementary School.
Residents and students in the beneficiary areas expressed their gratitude for the initiative, saying that it will significantly aid their studies, research, and daily communication needs.
DICT encourages the public to utilize the free internet responsibly and assures that more sites will be installed across the province as part of its continuing digitalization efforts.
