Residents of Sibuyan Island experienced tremors on Saturday morning following a magnitude 4.8 earthquake that struck the province of Masbate.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake occurred at around 8:28 a.m. on February 15. It was tectonic in origin, with its epicenter recorded 28 kilometers southwest of Claveria, Masbate.
“The water in front of me started moving, which made me realize that an earthquake was happening,” a resident of Sibuyan Island said.
Aside from Sibuyan Island, the tremors were also felt in parts of Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, and Quezon.
Authorities have not reported any significant damage or casualties, but monitoring continues for possible aftershocks.
