President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has signed Republic Act 12020, granting the Romblon Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Romelco) a 25-year franchise to establish and manage the power supply in three island municipalities in the Province of Romblon.
The new law, signed on August 29, authorizes Romelco to “construct, install, establish, operate, own, manage, and maintain distribution systems for the conveyance of electric power to end-users” in the municipalities of Banton, Corcuera, and Concepcion.
Under this franchise, Romelco is mandated to supply electricity to consumers “in the least costly manner,” ensuring accessible and affordable power for the residents of these island communities.
