A truck driver is currently recovering in the hospital after allegedly being stabbed outside a wake in Barangay Danao, Cajidiocan, Romblon, on Friday night.
The victim, identified as 49-year-old Arnold Rotoni, was allegedly attacked by Nilo Villanueva, a 52-year-old fisherman from Barangay Cantagda.
According to a report from the Cajidiocan Municipal Police Station, Rotoni was on his way to attend a wake when he encountered Villanueva drinking at a waiting shed near the venue. An argument ensued between the two for reasons yet to be determined. Villanueva left the scene briefly, returning with a knife, and allegedly stabbed Rotoni in the chest.
Local residents rushed Rotoni to the Sibuyan District Hospital, but he was later transferred to a hospital in Roxas City, Capiz, via a sea ambulance provided by the local government. The suspect fled the scene and is now the subject of a police manhunt as part of a hot pursuit operation.
