About 82 families are being relocated to a 3-hectare lot acquired by the local government unit of Magdiwang to make way for the expansion of Ambulong Port on Sibuyan Island.
The affected families will be resettled in Ambulong Village 1 and 2, which are situated near the port.
In May, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) assisted these residents by providing employment through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) Program. They worked for 30 days to prepare and beautify their new relocation site. According to DOLE Romblon, each family earned P395 per day during this period.
According to DOLE, the decision to relocate these families was driven by the port expansion project and because their current homes are located in a danger zone and are subject to Right-of-Way claims.
Romblon News Network is trying to reach the local government of Magdiwang for comments.
