The San Andres Police Station has issued a reminder to the public emphasizing the importance of wearing motorcycle helmets for their safety and security. The local police stressed that helmets are not just a legal requirement but a crucial safety measure that can prevent serious injuries and save lives in the event of accidents.
Police Captain Elena Gebaña during the PIA Barangay Forum on June 26 urged motorcycle riders to comply with the helmet law to protect themselves and their passengers.
“The enforcement of helmet laws is for your benefit. When we catch those without helmets, it’s to remind you that wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle is for your safety,” according to Gebaña.
She also expressed frustration over the negative reactions from some riders.
“Ang hindi ko maintindihan kapag nanghuhuli kami, sa halip na kayo ay matuwa dahil concern kami sa inyo, kayo pa ay nagagalit sa amin,” Gebaña added.
The strict enforcement by the San Andres police is in response to several recorded accidents in the town involving motorcycle riders who were not wearing helmets.
Gebaña highlighted another major cause of accidents, saying, “Secondly, drunk driving is the main reason why we have many vehicular accidents here. There’s nothing wrong with drinking if you really want to, but please don’t drive.”
