The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Romblon province has begun distributing its “Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program” (AKAP) cash assistance to minimum wage earners in the province.
DSWD's AKAP aims to protect minimum wage earners from the effects of inflation that tend to erode their buying power.
Around 420 beneficiaries from the towns of Santa Fe, Looc, Santa Maria, Ferrol, and Alcantara received their assistance last May 19. On June 11, approximately 220 beneficiaries from Looc and Santa Maria also received their AKAP assistance.
Abegail Fetilo, Social Welfare and Development Team Leader, stated that each beneficiary received P3,000.
AKAP is intended to provide a menu of assistance for goods and services that are affected by high inflation, depending on the needs of the individuals.
