The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA, in collaboration with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) of Odiongan, Romblon, provided aid to twelve (12) persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who are senior citizens at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s Odiongan District Jail recently.
The team provided hygiene kits to 12 senior citizens living within the Odiongan District Jail. The kits contain soap, shampoo, alcohol, toothpaste, and deodorant.
Additionally, social pensions for the first semester of the year, amounting to P6,000.00, were provided.
Aside from the pension distribution, DSWD personnel conducted validation and assessment for senior citizens who wished to become beneficiaries of the Social Pension program.
According to the Social Welfare and Development Team leader in Romblon, Abegail Fetilo, said that the initiative aims to provide support and assistance to senior citizens currently detained at the Odiongan District Jail, particularly in terms of health and daily needs.
Meamwhile, DSWD Mimaropa in a statement said that the activity underscores the recognition of the rights and needs of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), especially senior citizens, amidst their situation.
