Marinduque State College launched the Mimaropa Science Centrum yesterday, April 18, with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Dr. Fortunato T. de la Peña and regional director Dr. Ma Josefina P. Abilay.
The MSC President Dr. Diosdado P. Zulueta along with the House Speaker Hon. Lord Allan Jay Q. Velasco and Marinduque Governor Hon. Presbitero J. Velasco Jr and the Diocese of Boac Bishop Marcelino Antonio M. Maralit Jr graced the occasion.
The Mimaropa Science Centrum features 35 interactive exhibits usually shown in part of the National Science and Technology Week.
Based on the report from the Philippine Information Agency dated February 9, apart from the display such as “dancing worms” about magnetic field; “frozen shadow” on light properties and “watch me pedal” which explains the bones and anatomy in motion. DOST also installed StarBooks (Science and Technology Academic and Research Based Openly Operated Kiosks) stations.
DOST MIMAROPA in partnership with the Provincial Government of Marinduque and Marinduque State College made the regional science centrum possible to provide an informal and highly relatable exhibit for the public to stimulate a suitable new normal environment for the youth to spark their interest in science and technology.
After the formal opening, MSC and DOST hosted a welcome dinner and cultural night to mark the event. The MSC Culture and Arts Unit rendered a night of Marinduque dance, music and heritage.
The MSC Director of student affairs and services director Sir Arnel M. Lantita presented the DOST scholars in Marinduque while the MSC Research director Sir Harvey A. Dulay presented the DOST-assisted projects in the province.
Marinduque State College is also celebrating its 70th foundation year this 2022, since its inception as Marinduque School of Arts and Trades from 1952-1983, Marinduque Institute of Science and Technology from 1983-1992 before being the Marinduque State College from 1992-2019 transitioning to Marinduque State University from 2019 onwards with the passage of RA 11334 .
