DOST-MIMAROPA through its Provincial S&T center in Occidental Mindoro provided Sablayan Municipal Health Office an RxBox biomedical telemedicine device to enhance people’s access to quality healthcare services in the municipality. The RxBox was turned over to Municipal Mayor Andres D. Dangeros and several municipal health officers last February 15, 2022.
RxBox is a telemedicine device that can be used for diagnostic procedures in rural areas. It is also capable for storing electronic medical records and transmitting health information via internet for referral of patient’s medical information for further medical care.
The RxBox is composed of six (6) medical sensors which include Cardiotocograph (CTG), Fetal Heart Rate Monitor, Electrocardiogram (ECG), Blood Pressure Monitor, Pulse Oxymeter, and a Temperature sensor which can help health workers diagnose and monitor patients within the rural health facility. The RxBox is expected to provide stakeholders, most especially those living far away from hospitals and clinics immediate and free access to healthcare.
According to the Sablayan Municipal Health Officer the RxBox will greatly aid in providing healthcare services, most importantly in ensuring maternal health of Sablayan residents. “Nagpapasalamat po kami sa DOST at nagkaroon kami ng ganitong telemedicine device. Ito po ay aming magagamit lalo na sa aming paanakan.”.
The Local Government Unit of Sablayan (LGU-Sablayan) is one of the seven (7) municipalities in the Province of Occidental Mindoro to receive the RxBox. Other municipalities include Abra De Ilog, Calintaan, Looc, Lubang, Magsaysay, and San Jose.
