December 12, 2020 marks a historic event for the island Province of Marinduque as Vice Governor Romulo Aguinaldo Bacorro Jr. launches the campaign “Puso Ng Pasko Para Sa Kalikasan”, a tree planting and gift giving activity for typhoon affected communities.
With the help and support of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office headed by OIC-PENR Officer Ms. Imelda M. Diaz, Ecological Justice League of Youth Leaders, Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity and Sorority, and the Youth of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente, 500 Talisay (Terminilia Catapa) were planted along the shoreline of Barangay Masiga, Gasan, Marinduque. Coinciding was the distribution of hygiene kits to household beneficiaries with the help of Masiga Barangay Council.
“Puso Ng Pasko Para Sa Kalikasan” was participated by different government agencies and organizations: the Land Transportation Boac District Office, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Cooperative Development Authority, Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guard Gasan and Balanacan, Marinduque State College, NMAC Club Philippines Marinduque Chapter, Sangguniang Kabataan, 4Ps Beneficiaries, Tau Gamma Phi and Alpha Kappa Rho with a total of 476 participants.
On a spot interview, Vice Governor Bacorro reiterated the need for the youth and the community as a whole to devote themselves in defending and protecting the environment through activities that will help mitigate climate change. “Let us keep Earth a better place to live, plant more endemic trees and enjoy a biodiversified planet”, he added.
As per information from the office of Vice Governor Bacorro, the campaign will not just for the celebration of the yuletide season but it will be a continuous event of his office to plant trees and mangroves to National Greening Program sites of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office in the whole Province of Marinduque.
