Youth Beyond Paris is a mentorship session and consultation with the chosen participants to develop a national youth statement on climate for submission to the Philippine delegation to the 22nd Conference of Parties in Marrakesh, Morocco scheduled to take place from November 7-18.
The Climate Reality Project Philippines spearheaded the said event for Luzon last September 19, 2016 at Hotel Sulo Riviera, Quezon City. It focuses on dissecting the Paris Agreement, group mentorship in climate policy, climate science & communication and creative campaigning and youth consultations on mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage and means of implementation in the areas of climate finance, technology transfer and capacity-building.
Rodne Galicha, a Romblomanon and the TCRP Philippines manager, lead the event, Dingdong Dantes of Yes Pinoy Foundation gave his remarks online and various NGOs representative headed the panel discussions (Beatrice Tulagan of TCRP, Renee Karunungan & Micheline Rama of Dakila, Mima Mendoza & Reuben Muni of Greenpeace) then the drafting of 2016 Philippine Youth Statement on Climate Change is concluded.
Two other Romblomanons partook on the said event, JN Ramiro of Sibuyan Island and Marisse Castillon of Tablas Island.
“As a trained Climate Reality Leader, the event really helped me to broaden my knowledge with regards to climate change issues and the Paris agreement. I was able to help in drafting the Filipino Youth Statement for COP22 which is a big achievement for me. I learned a lot from my fellow participants about the concerns different sectors when it comes to environment and climate issues.”, Ramiro said.
