Given the context of a worldwide pandemic during the last quarter in 2019 and the Luzon-wide lockdown in Luzon from March to May this year, 34 teacher-scholars from Oriental Mindoro, Romblon and Marinduque has successfully completed the Graduate Diploma in Cultural Education (GDCE) courses this Summer 2020.
The GDCE Batch 2 in Mimaropa was able to waver along the challenges of the lockdown, community quarantine and steady increase of conform cases, still the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Philippine Cultural Education Program led the way in transforming the crisis into an opportunity to conquer and overcome Covid19.
GDCE Level 1 Batch 2 started last May 11-16 with the CulEd205: Philippine Arts course with Dr. Victor Emmanuel Carmelo Nadera Jr; then May 18-23 with CulEd203: Cultural Diversity and Languages of the Philippines under Dr. Mary Bulaong; after which May 25-30 with CulEd204: Re-view of History and Heritage Laws with Prof. Michael Charleston “Xiao” Chua; and finally last June 1-6 with CulEd200: Pedagogy of Cultural Education under Dr. Orlando Magno.
The 34 GDCE teacher-scholars were vetted from more than 46 prospected educators in the region last April 17 in coordination with the Department of Education Mimaropa and the Marinduque State College School of Graduate Education and Professional Studies. The qualified teachers were then interviewed and given an orientation last May 8 via zoom online meeting platform.
The GDCE Batch 2 is composed of the following teacher-scholars: Alojado, Christabel from Makapuyat Elementary School; Ballovar, John Michael from Looc National High School; Brual, Romilyn from Mainit Elementary School; Epa, Arwin Jones and Madriaga, Vince Justin Roland from Marinduque State College Laboratory School; Galloniga, Rhia, Malco, Ana Jessa and Vitto, Clarissa all from Mogpog National Comprehensive High School; Insigne, Crystal from Don Luis Hidalgo Memorial School; Jalac, Jellie Ann and Perolino, Ann Margaret both from Bangbang National High School; Laderas, Jerahmeel from Tapuyan National High School; Lagustan, Joephet from Sacred Heart Academy; Lamac, Kate and Magno, Rizalyn from Marinduque State College School of Business and Management; Lanete, Micha from Puting Buhangin National High School; Leyco, Marco Alexandro, Mendoza, Jing-Jing and Nepomuceno, Rufina all from Marinduque National High School; Lozanta, Joseph from Ipil National High School; Luci, Myra and Olpot both from Cawit National Comprehensive High School; Magramo, Rico from San Andres National High School; Maningas, Eric from Landy National High School; Manlisis, John Earl from Marinduque Midwest College; Mansalapus, Aljohn from Mongpong National High School; Marciano, Jolibee from Matalaba National High School; Mogol, Joanne from Argao National High School; Montemayor, Mark Christopher Roi from Caigangan Elementary School; Morong, Ronalyn and Murillo, Anthony both from Guisian Elementary School; Nocum, Hannah Cinkee from Bognuyan National High School; Oliveros, Krizzia from Sibuyao National High School and Palacios, Johnnel from Capayang Elementary School.
Next summer, under the new normal the GDCE Level 2courses left would be CulEd206: Local Cultural Mapping; CulEd207: Media-based Cultural Documentaries; CulEd 208: Issues in Cultural Education and CulEd209: Development of Culture-based Lesson Exemplars. Marinduque State College is among the NCCA Higher Education Institution (HEI) partner in implementing the cultural education mandate, along with the University of Northern Philippines in Ilocos Region, La Consolacion University in Central Luzon, University of Cebu, in Central Visayas Northwest Samar State University in Eastern Visayas, Western Mindanao State University, La Salle University Ozamiz and Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro.
