During the opening ceremony of the Provincial Athletic Meet 2025 on February 2, Odiongan Mayor Trina Firmalo-Fabic emphasized that the event plays a crucial role in shaping young athletes by instilling discipline and character.
The annual competition, organized by the Department of Education (DepEd), gathers nearly 4,500 delegates from across Romblon. Hosted by the local government of Odiongan, this year’s meet features various sports, including swimming, track and field, soccer, volleyball, and boxing.
Mayor Firmalo-Fabic highlighted that athletic meets serve not only as a platform for selecting representatives for the MIMAROPA Regional Athletic Meet and Palarong Pambansa but also as a means to develop discipline and character in young athletes. She stressed the importance of shaping individuals who will contribute positively to society.
Encouraging participants and spectators, she expressed confidence that Romblomanon athletes can excel not only at the regional level but also on a national scale.
The Provincial Athletic Meet serves as a qualifier for the 2025 MIMAROPA Regional Athletic Meet, scheduled for next month in Puerto Princesa City. The event underscores the province’s commitment to fostering young talent and promoting sports as a tool for holistic development.
With the strong support of the local government, DepEd, and the community, the meet aims to inspire young athletes to strive for excellence both in sports and in life.
