The opening ceremony of the Provincial Athletic Meet 2025 took place on February 2, highlighting the significance of sportsmanship, discipline, and unity among young athletes.
Romblon Governor Jose Riano attended the event, emphasizing the role of the competition in fostering dedication and resilience.
Governor Riano underscored that the gathering was more than just a celebration of sports, as it also reflected the perseverance of athletes.
He encouraged participants to compete with honor and respect, serving as role models both on and off the field. Additionally, he reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to enhancing the Sports Complex, the venue for the event, to provide improved facilities for athletes and spectators.
Organized by the Department of Education (DepEd), the annual meet brings together nearly 4,500 delegates from across Romblon. Athletes compete in various sports, including swimming, track and field, soccer, volleyball, and boxing. The event serves as a qualifier for the 2025 MIMAROPA Regional Athletic Meet, scheduled to take place next month in Puerto Princesa City.
