The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Romblon chapter has expressed its unwavering support for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in light of controversial statements made by Vice President Sara Duterte, which allegedly posed a threat to the safety of the President and other top officials.
In a text message on Friday, LMP Romblon President and Romblon, Romblon Mayor Gerard Montojo, said that the Romblon mayors stood firmly with the LMP national chapter’s manifesto condemning threats against the country’s leadership.
“The recent pronouncement of Vice President Sara Duterte not only threatens the life of the Head of the Philippine Government but also endangers our democracy,” the manifesto read.
Duterte allegedly made the remarks during an online news conference, claiming to have hired an assassin to kill President Marcos, First Lady Liza Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if a supposed plot against her were to succeed.
In their statement, the LMP emphasized that leadership demands prioritizing the welfare of the nation over personal or political agendas. They further underscored the importance of peace and stability, rejecting any threats that could undermine democracy and public safety.
“As local elected officials who are mandated to look after the welfare of our people, we are calling on our fellow public servants and the Filipino people to rally behind the President,” the statement read.
The LMP reaffirmed their trust in President Marcos’ leadership, praising his integrity and compassion in fostering progress and democracy.
