The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has confirmed that no oil spills or flooding have been detected in the vicinity of the cargo vessel LCT ASC Big Boy, which ran aground early on the morning of October 23 in San Agustin, Romblon.
The vessel was anchored in San Agustin due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine when its anchor chain broke, causing it to drift approximately 50 meters from the shoreline of Barangay Sugod.
The LCT ASC Big Boy is currently carrying 17 crew members along with 154 containers, seven rolling cargoes, and one pre-loader truck.
Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries among the crew members, and the vessel’s engines are fully operational at this time.
The PCG, alongside the Marine Environmental Protection Unit – Romblon, is actively monitoring the situation. They are conducting continuous assessments to ensure the safety of both the vessel and its crew.
As of now, they are taking precautionary measures to prevent any potential environmental impact from the incident.
