Romblon province has been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as Tropical Storm Kristine brings adverse weather conditions to the region. In response, Governor Jose Riano issued an executive order suspending classes at all levels in both public and private schools, as well as work in government offices on Tuesday.
The decision aims to prioritize public safety and minimize the risks posed by the incoming storm.
The suspension applies to all educational institutions and government offices, with exceptions made for agencies involved in essential services such as health, disaster preparedness, and other critical operations.
Governor Riano instructed local chief executives to closely monitor the situation in their respective areas and provide a swift response as needed.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has also been placed on full alert, ready to respond to any emergencies that may arise from the storm.
In preparation for the potential impact of Tropical Storm Kristine, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that it has prepositioned approximately 18,000 food packs across 15 Romblon towns.
According to DSWD focal person Melandro Mariano, food packs have also been distributed to island municipalities, ensuring that they are well-prepared for any disruptions the storm may cause.
PAGASA last observed the eye of the Tropical Storm Kristine at 5 this morning at a distance of 390 km East of Virac, Catanduanes, and moving westward at a speed of 15 km/h. The typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h.
