The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue District Office (RDO) No. 35 – Romblon has been recognized as one of the top performing offices in the country in terms of tax collection efficiency.
This achievement was highlighted by lawyer Eric P. Diesto, OIC-Regional Director of BIR Revenue Region-9A, during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas held in Calapan City on October 8.
Diesto emphasized that the performance of BIR Romblon is based on its ability to meet and exceed its revenue collection goals, despite having a smaller target compared to other regions.
He cited, for instance, that while Romblon’s target for September was set at P42.918 million, the actual collection far exceeded expectations, reaching P53.2 million.
“Malaki ang percentage increase at percentage accomplishment ng Romblon,” Diesto said, noting that Romblon’s consistent overachievement in tax collection has made it stand out nationally.
Despite being a smaller province with a goal of less than P1 billion in revenue, BIR sees great potential in Romblon due to various factors, including government remittances linked to local infrastructure projects.
Diesto also noted that remittances from the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Department of Education contributed well to Romblon’s revenue collection performance.
He also credited the dedication of BIR personnel, especially those assigned to island municipalities, for their role in sustaining this strong performance.
“Meron kaming mga naka-assign na mga collection agents sa mga munisipyo. Nagsasakripisyo ‘yung mga personnel namin para magkaroon ng dalawang lugar na assignment,” he said, stressing that despite these challenges, Romblon continues to perform well beyond expectations. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA-Romblon
