The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is in discussions with the local government of Odiongan to implement a socialized housing project under the “Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program” (4PH).
This flagship housing initiative of the government, led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., aims to address the nation’s housing needs.
During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas forum on September 24, DHSUD MIMAROPA Regional Director Peter Daniel Fraginal confirmed that the agency is working with Odiongan’s local officials to identify potential land for the project. Odiongan Mayor Trina Firmalo-Fabic also confirmed the development through a Viber message to PIA Romblon, stating that the local government unit (LGU) is actively searching for suitable lots.
Fraginal explained that Filipino workers who are members of the PAG-IBIG Fund can avail of the housing program at an affordable cost, with low monthly amortization rates.
In a separate interview, EnP Alexander Foja, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator of Odiongan, explained that the LGU is responsible for identifying a minimum of 3 hectares of land for the project.
This area will include not only houses but also public infrastructure such as recreation areas, markets, and possibly a school, depending on community needs. The LGU will also determine the project’s beneficiaries according to DHSUD guidelines.
Fraginal further mentioned that similar discussions are underway with the local government of Concepcion to identify land for a housing project on Sibale Island. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA-Romblon)
