The construction of new Super Health Centers in different parts of the MIMAROPA is set to enhance the delivery of health services in the region.
This is according to Dr. Mario Baquilod, Regional Director of the Center for Health and Development Mimaropa, during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas forum in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro on Tuesday.
Dr. Baquilod emphasized the importance of the Super Health Center in improving healthcare infrastructure and services.
In Romblon, the Department of Health is currently constructing five Super Health Centers in the towns of Calatrava, Magdiwang, Romblon, San Andres, and San Jose.
A Super Health Center functions as a semi-hospital, significantly larger than a Rural Health Unit. It is equipped with various facilities such as a clinical laboratory, X-ray room, surgical room, birthing facility, electrocardiogram testing, ultrasound units, and others.
During the forum, Baquilod also highlighted the collaborative effort required for the center’s functionality, particularly the need for local government units (LGUs) to provide necessary human resources.
“We are focusing on the human resource requirement that should be a counterpart of the LGU. Once this is provided for, the center will become fully functional,” Dr. Baquilod explained.
The management of Super Health Centers will be under the jurisdiction of the LGUs, ensuring localized control and administration.
