The Sangguniang Bayan of Odiongan has unanimously approved a resolution placing the town under a state of calamity to allow authorities to further address the worsening situation caused by the El Niño phenomenon.
The decision was based on the recommendation of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Sangguniang Bayan member Jack Fernandez confirmed to Romblon News Network that the resolution declaring a state of calamity was passed Friday, April 26, during a special session requested by OIC Ramer Ramos.
Mayor Trina Firmalo-Fabic emphasized the necessity of declaring a state of calamity to enable barangays to access their Quick Response Funds for acquiring essential equipment to alleviate water supply shortages.
Additionally, the local government unit (LGU) can utilize its funds to provide assistance to affected farmers grappling with the adverse effects of El Niño.
Earlier this week, the local government unit of Odiongan earlier said that at least 18 sitios in town are also receiving water deliveries from the agencies that are members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
