More than 700 backyard hog raisers in Odiongan, Romblon, are taking proactive measures to protect their livelihoods against the looming threat of African Swine Fever (ASF) by securing insurance coverage from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).
According to the latest figures from Odiongan’s Municipal Agriculture Office, a total of 729 hog raisers in the town have already insured 3,201 swine. The insurance policies cover breeders for a year and fatteners for four months.
PJ Montoya from the Municipal Agriculture Office emphasized that the number of insured hog raisers is expected to rise in the coming days as their office continues to disseminate information about PCIC’s insurance offerings.
The PCIC will continue to accept applications for insurance coverage until a confirmed case of ASF is detected in the town.
