The local government unit (LGU) of Odiongan in the province of Romblon has declared Filipino “drag queen” Pura Luka Vega as persona non grata. This declaration was made through a resolution passed by the Sangguniang Bayan ng Odiongan during their 39th Regular Session on September 26.
The decision to declare Pura Luka Vega persona non grata came from her viral performance, where she rapped the “Ama Namin” (Our Father) prayer and impersonated the Black Nazarene. Many devout Christians found this performance to be deeply disturbing.
SB Manuel Fernandez Jr., the sponsor of the ordinance, stated that they had invited religious leaders, including representatives from the Catholic Church, to gather their sentiments regarding the issue before ultimately passing the resolution.
