The town of Odiongan in Romblon province was recognized during the 2022 Freedom of Information (FOI) awarding ceremony for successfully passing and implementing a Freedom of Information ordinance.
Odiongan has approved an FOI ordinance back in October 2021, institutionalizing public access to information.
The ordinance known as the “FOI Ordinance of 2021 of the Municipality of Odiongan, Romblon” authored by former SB member Alexander Formento will fastrack Odionganons and non-Odionganons in accessing public information, officials’ records, public records, documents, and papers pertaining to official acts, transactions or decisions, as well as to government research data used as the basis for policy development.
Odiongan was the first municipality in the province and one of the only 63 local government units in the country to pass such localized policy.
