The National Food Authority (NFA) in Romblon province is urging the local government units especially those who were hit by Typhoon Tisoy to purchase NFA rice as their rice requirements for their relief operations to their affected constituents.
Melca Rojas of NFA-Romblon during the Kapihan sa PIA-Romblon assured the public that they have sufficient rice stocks in their warehouses located in Odiongan in Tablas Island; Romblon in Romblon Island; and Cajidiocan, and San Fernando in Sibuyan Island.
“We are saddened to what Romblomanon experienced (with Tisoy) that left damages to our agricultural products, houses, and more infrastructures. In this regard, we appeal to LGUs including barangay officials, and government agencies to purchase NFA’s cheap and high quality rice for their relief operations,” Rojas said.
Rojas also added that it is an advantage to all government agencies and LGUs to purchase NFA rice because no more conduct of public bidding, as per the Republic Act 9184 or the Procurement Act.
NFA rice are being sold to retailers, government agencies including LGUs, and BLGUs for only P25/kilo or P1,250/bag, far lower than the price of commercial rice in the province.
Rojas also added that NFA rice being sold in the province are local rice which came from San Jose, Occidental Mindoro and not imported.
“Our warehouses have enough stock of local rice. Actually, there are 30,000 more bags of rice for Romblomanons coming this week,” Rojas said.
To avail NFA’s good quality rice, agencies may just submit duly signed purchase order, and letter request addressed to Provincial Director Redentor Arciago.
Meanwhile, private individuals may also buy rice directly to the National Food Authority for only P27/kilo. To those who are interested may visit their NFA accredited outlets, and warehouses. (PJF/PIA-Mimaropa/Romblon)
