Negotiations are ongoing with the Department of Justice (DOJ) to give Philippine media representation in the Task Force (TF) on Media Killings.
This developed after series of consultations were conducted last week by Secretary Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) with various media organisations, including the National Press Club (NPC).
“At pinag-usapan natin kung ano ‘yung mga dapat gawin, kung ano ‘yung mga dapat i-negotiate natin,” said Andanar. The DOJ chairs the TF on Media Killings.
The PCO chief explained, “Kasi dapat maintindihan po ng ating mga kasamahan sa media na although itong Task Force on Media Killings ay spearheaded by our office, Presidential Communications Office, ay kailangan po nating makipagtulungan with the Department of Justice.”
Secretary Andanar said in a radio interview over dzRB on Sunday that the PCO, together with the NPC and the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, are negotiating with the DOJ that media shall be its co-chair in the task force.
He further added,“Sa palagay po natin ay mas magiging relevant itong task force kung mayroon pong pangunahing role ang ating mga kasamahan sa media.” (PNA)
