The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station Aklan rescued two fishermen of a distressed motorbanca amid strong winds and big waves caused by Tropical Depression “Lannie” between the vicinity waters off Sta. Fe, Romblon and Nabas, Aklan around 3PM yesterday, October 4.
In a press release, identified the fishermen as Vincent Cunihar and Sonny Tayco.
They departed Barangay Colong-Colong, Ibajay, Aklan at around 4AM of October to conduct a fishing venture at the vicinity waters off the Sibuyan Sea.
They decided to go home at around 4AM of October 4 but they encountered engine trouble underway which caused them to drift towards the vicinity waters between Sta. Fe, Romblon and Nabas, Aklan.
The PCG Station Aklan immediately deployed its Search and Rescue (SAR) team upon receipt of the distress call from the concerned fishermen.
The rescued individuals were brought to the PCG Station Aklan office for further assistance and inquiry about the maritime incident.
After confirming that they were all in good physical condition, PCG personnel turned them over to the owner of the distressed motorbanca, Nilda Diaz at Barangay Colong-Colong.
In times of inclement weather conditions, the PCG continues to remind fishermen, mariners, and coastal residents to avoid venturing into the sea for their safety.
