The local government unit of Odiongan in Romblon is targeting to vaccinate every senior citizen in the town to protect them from the severe effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In an interview on Friday, May 21, Odiongan mayor Trina Firmalo-Fabic told PIA Romblon that so far, 66% of the elderly population in town showed their willingness to be vaccinated.
According to Mayor Fabic, Odiongan has about 6,000 senior citizens out of its total population.
“Target talaga namin na mabakunahan sila lahat, sa ngayon nasa 4,000 palang yung nagpaparehistro pero inaasahan naming madagdagan ito dahil makikita nila na ‘yung mga kasama nilang Senior Citizens ay nabakunahan na,” she said in Tagalog.
She also shared that the LGU and its Rural Health Unit are continuing their effort on promoting the vaccines.
Inoculation of Covid-19 vaccines for A2 priority groups or for the elderly population formally started in Odiongan today, May 21.
Fabic said that 200 senior citizen will receive their first dose of Astrazenica vaccines today.
Meanwhile, those who belong to the A3 priority group or those persons with comorbidities who wants to avail the free vaccine may start registering in the coming days.
“Maglalabas kami ng online registration maybe tomorrow or this coming days para doon sa mga gusto magpabakuna na pasok sa A3 priority group,” the mayor said.
