The Department of Transportation (DOTr), in partnership with the local government of Corcuera, officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the Corcuera Port Development Project recently.
Transportation Undersecretary for Maritime Elmer Francisco Sarmiento emphasized that the port’s development will enhance passenger comfort and safety while facilitating the efficient export of goods, products, and livestock such as cattle and sheep from Corcuera.
“The funding we are providing to develop ports, whether through rehabilitation or new construction, will significantly benefit isolated and remote islands. This initiative aims to connect them and bolster their island economies,” Usec. Sarmiento stated.
Corcuera Mayor Elmer Fruelda expressed his gratitude to the DOTr, highlighting the project’s positive impact on the community and nearby provinces.
“The impact of this development is immense as it will accelerate the pace of development and alleviate the difficulties our residents face when transferring to different locations due to docking challenges. With the repair of our port, these challenges will be significantly reduced,” Mayor Fruelda said.
