The Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III urged all unvaccinated senior citizens to get COVID-19 jabs during the rollout of ‘Resbakuna sa mga Botika’ on Thursday, January 20.
“Ako ay nananawagan lalo na ang ating pong mga senior citizens na dapat ay magpabakuna na tayo sa lalong madaling panahon. Huwag na tayong magkaroon ng agam agam o pagdududa,” Secretary Duque said.
Duque added that senior citizens and individuals with comorbidities should immediately get vaccinated because they contribute a high percentage of death vulnerable group in our population.
“Gagamitin ko ang pagkakataong ito ngayong araw para manawagan muli at kumbinsihin ang atin pong mga kababayan tungkol sa pagiging epektibo at sa taglay na proteksyon ng ating mga bakuna,” he added.
Meanwhile, Secretary Duque pointed out that there are two key approach in response to COVID-19 pandemic.
“First, vaccination is indeed effective against severe and critical COVID infection. Thus, preventing hospitalization and deaths,” Duque said.
He cited that the second approach was to always follow the Mask-Iwas-Hugas-Airflow.
The health department assured the public that vaccines are safe, free, and effective which are checked by regulatory agencies such as Food and Drug Administration and Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
