San Jose mayor Ronnie Samson has called on the National Power Corporation (NPC) to energize the town 24-7 comes December 1.
In a press conference Friday, Samson bared that he has earlier requested the NPC for the 24-7 energization by November 15.
“This does not materialized as NPC officials told me that they need still need to purchase a spare part to ensure power reliability in this island. I hope this December we will have a 24-7 power reliability,” he added.
Early this year, the NPC has announced that it has invested P30 million to energize remote areas with the installation of 1,500 kilowatts (kw) of new capacity in two small islands in Romblon to which include San Jose.
They added that the technical and maintenance services (TMS) group has completed the 1,000-kw expansion of the Sibuyan diesel power plant (DPP) in Sibuyan Island and the 500-kw expansion of the Corcuera DPP in Simara Island earlier this month.
For several years, the San Jose town also known as Carabao Island and Hambil has limited power supply.
Meanwhile, Samson added that they wanted the electricity with the anticipated influx of tourism here. According to the reports of the Municipal Tourism Office, the town of San Jose registered some 30,000 foreign and local tourists this year. Last 2018, the town only recorded 18,000.
“We are prepared for influx of tourism. An investor has already expressed its intent in operating a casino in our town,” he added.
