Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Odiongan District Jail are showcasing their handcrafted products and artworks at the 2025 Agri-Trade Fair, which runs from March 31 to April 7 at Children’s Park and Paradise in Odiongan, Romblon.
The initiative is a collaboration between BJMP-Odj and the local government unit (LGU) of Odiongan, providing a platform for PDLs to display their skills while challenging the stigma associated with incarceration.
BJMP MIMAROPA information officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo emphasized the economic and social benefits of the event. “The fair not only boosts the morale of PDLs but also provides them an opportunity to generate income, helping support their families while they serve their time,” Anglo stated.
Among the handcrafted items displayed are wooden foldable tables, lampshades, cellphone stands, coin banks, and various home décor pieces, showcasing the creativity and craftsmanship of PDLs.
Jail Senior Superintendent Clarence Mayangao, BJMP MIMAROPA Regional Director, praised the dedication of jail officers in fostering an environment of reform and rehabilitation. “This event is a testament to the skills, growth, and transformation of our PDLs, proving that they can still be productive members of society,” Mayangao said.
The partnership between BJMP-Odj and the Odiongan LGU ensures that the fair not only highlights local artistry but also promotes skills development and livelihood opportunities for PDLs as part of their reintegration process.
