The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) MIMAROPA launched the 2024 conduct of Census of Population (POPCEN)-Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS), which will commence on July 15 until the midst of September 2024.
With the theme “Sa POPCEN at CBMS, Kasama ka sa Pag-unlad tungo sa Makabagong Pilipinas,” PSA aims to update the population to reflect the current demography as well as streamline the list of beneficiaries of the government social protection program.
The press launch also provides information on the distribution of shares of the local government units (LGUs) in the National Tax Collections.
In her statement, PSA Regional Director Leni R. Rioflorido said the conduct of POPCEN-CBMS is an initiative of the government through their agency to address poverty and ensure the inclusive progress of the economy.
“The POPCEN-CBMS will also be utilized to determine who are those qualified individuals to become beneficiaries of the social protection program,” Rioflorido said.
A presentation shown by the PSA during the press conference says that data derived from the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS will form a basis for formulating policies, programs, and projects in various sectors such as health, education, employment, housing and infrastructure, among others.
Additionally, the statistics gathered from the surveys may facilitate research, academic studies, and population growth projections at both national and sub-national levels, enabling comprehensive analysis and informed decision-making.
PSA MIMAROPA Regional Director Leni R. Rioflorido encourages the public to actively join and support the conduct of the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN) and Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS).
Rioflorido emphasized that the upcoming 2024 POPCEN-CBMS is a critical initiative that will shape the future of the communities and the nation, hence, the participation of everyone is important.
“We understand that your privacy is important. All collected information will be kept confidential and used only for statistical purposes. Your honest and accurate responses are crucial in providing a clear and comprehensive picture of our population,” she said.
Participants in the press launch include officials from then LGUs, national government agencies, academe, and other stakeholders.
The POPCEN is a complete enumeration of households and institutional living quarters in the country, which is designed to take an inventory of the total population nationwide. (LTC/PIA MIMAROPA)
