House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez led the inauguration of Romblon State University’s information system, a key component of the university’s information and communications technology modernization program.
Romualdez was accompanied by university president Merian Mani, Romblon representative Eleandro Madrona, Ako Bicol partylist representative Elizaldy Co, and Romblon governor Jose Riano.
During his speech at the RSU graduation rites, Romualdez highlighted that this project marks a new era for Romblon State University as a smart campus, revolutionizing the way information is managed and shared within the university.
“I witness RSU’s smart campus and the new developments it is bringing not just to Romblon, not just the region, but the entire country. Indeed, Romblon, particularly RSU, stands at the forefront of what President Ferdinand R. Marcos envisions: the digitalization of the Philippines,” he said.
The university information system will streamline processes, automate tasks, and enhance data security measures to ensure efficient operations and protect sensitive information. The smart campus program also includes additional components such as a learning management system, a university accounting system, a university HR management system, a campus data center, and more.
“By leveraging technology and innovations, we aim to cultivate future-ready students who will excel in the digital world and contribute to academic excellence and creativity. This initiative will set RSU apart as a unique institution in the region and beyond,” according to Romualdez.
During a short program, RSU president Merian Mani, who was recently elected for her second term as university president, thanked Romualdez, Co, Madrona, and CHED Chairperson Prospero de Vera for allowing RSU to join the select few universities that have a smart campus program.
Mani said that the university envisions setting up e-laboratories in strategic campuses of RSU and learning commons in strategic barangays that will be open for public access.
“I am confident that this smart campus initiative will pave the way for more formidable years for our university. It will enhance our service to all stakeholders and even share our facilities to the local government and to the barangay officials,” Mani said.
The smart campus program, funded by the Commission on Higher Education, aims to achieve complete end-to-end modernization of the campus management system, along with the necessary infrastructure for its utilization. It will provide RSU with a world-class ICT data infrastructure and a seamless system, promoting advanced digital proficiency for both students and educators.
