The province of Romblon has seen significant economic recovery, with the tourism sector playing a crucial role in the rebound. After facing challenges in the aftermath of the pandemic, Romblon has demonstrated resilience, particularly with tourism emerging as a key driver in revitalizing the local economy.
The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Romblon recorded a notable upswing of 9.8 percent in 2022, indicating the province’s commitment to recovery and growth. This positive trend is attributed to the steady increase in vital sectors such as hospitality, transportation, and construction.
Engr. Jonny Solis, chief statistical specialist of PSA Romblon, underscored the tourism sector’s substantial contribution during a recent press conference.
He emphasized that tourism played a crucial role in elevating Romblon’s economic standing.
The increase in the overall value of goods and services produced, reaching PHP 29.03 billion, not only reflects the rebound but also solidifies Romblon’s position as the second-highest in GDP growth among the five provinces in the region.
This resurgence is indicative of the collaborative efforts of Romblon’s tourism stakeholders, businesses, and the local community in promoting the province as an appealing destination.
