The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) MIMAROPA Region conducted a capacity building activity for permit holders in Romblon, April 13, in the Municipality of Odiongan.
Organized by the Provincial Government of Romblon through its Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), the permit holders were re-oriented on their duties and responsibilities as permittees, and were updated on the relevant laws, rules, and regulations governing their operations.
Technical personnel from the MGB MIMAROPA Region – Mine Management Division and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) – Romblon also presented the status of quarry and sand and gravel (SAG) permits in the province; the reportorial requirements of permit holders; the guidelines for the extraction of SAG materials; and the Gender and Development component in small-scale mining (SSM), SAG, and quarry areas.
The activity concluded with the election of a new set of officers to represent the SSM sector in the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board.
In cooperation with partner agencies and institutions, the said activity is part of the continuing efforts of the MGB to raise awareness on the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ priority program on responsible mining, and to involve the citizenry in the efforts to combat illegal mining activities.
