The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) MIMAROPA strengthens partnerships with local government units (LGU) in the region in advancing the goals and objectives of the Philippine Population and Development Program (PPDP).
Celebrating its 54th anniversary this year with the year-long theme “POPCOM: Katuwang ng Lokal na Pamahalaan sa Pagpapaunlad ng Pamilya at Pamayanan,” the agency pursues meaningful collaboration with partner agencies and LGUs to empower individuals, families, and communities consistent with the goal of socio-economic transformation of the present administration.
Close to 50 technical assistance activities were conducted by POPCOM MIMAROPA in 2022 to capacitate key LGU personnel in enhancing their local development plans and programs by deepening their understanding of the nexuses between and among population and development variables.
“Poverty is brought about by the absence of capabilities and opportunities to improve one’s living condition. In making development truly people-centered, there is a need to appreciate and address the unique circumstances that are experienced by an LGU,” explains POPCOM MIMAROPA Assistant Regional Director Gloren R. Hinlo.
Against the backdrop of this year’s anniversary theme, POPCOM MIMAROPA also celebrated its 3rd year of existence as a POPCOM regional office independent from POPCOM CALABARZON last February 3, 2023. This celebration attributed its accomplishments to the frontliners of the population and development programs implemented in the LGUs.
“Still in its infancy, the POPCOM MIMAROPA regional office has reached out to as many as 47 out of 78 LGUs last year, most of which are all set to institutionalize the delivery of POPCOM services and functions to truly empower MIMAROPA families and communities,” ARD Hinlo exclaimed.
Based on Regional Development Council Resolution No. 2018-065-733 and approved by DBM, POPCOM-MIMAROPA was officially created on February 3, 2022, as an independent regional office, making it the youngest population and development office in the entire Commission.
