An alliance of environmental organizations and student organizations took part in the protest, which was organized by Sibuyanons in Tablas against mining held at Odiongan Children’s Park and Paradise last February 11.
The group has called for an action to ban and stop any mining activities in Sibuyan as it they alleged disrupts the lives and hopes of the residence. Around 300 protesters marched around Odiongan’s town back, where a rally was held thereafter.
Wilson Fortaleza, an advocate and environmentalist urged everyone to steward the Sibuyan and share his sentiments for what was happened during the exploration activity in the said island. Meanwhile, Dhanna Rose Arriola, SITAM Organizer, share her idea and experience why Sibuyan should be protected.
Other speakers also deliver their talk about the island rich biodiversity, empowering the youth to stand against mining and its impact on health and environment.
Moreover, SIbuyanons who are present in the protest testified and shared their experience and the contributions of the environment to their lives.
