In view of this year’s celebration of the feast of Señor Sto. Niño de Romblon, the town Mayor of Romblon, Romblon declares Friday, January 10, as special municipal non-working holiday.
The executive order was signed by Mayor Gerard Montojo last Tuesday, January 7, suspending Friday classes in all levels, both private and public schools, including work in government and private offices.
He noted that ‘Christians rightfully deserve full opportunity to celebrate the historical event with appropriate ceremonies to Filipino traditions and customs.’
On January 10, the image of Santo Niño de Romblon will be brought down from his lofty sanctuary inside the Saint Joseph Cathedral to be honored, adored, and venerated by devotees for nine (9) days.
After which, the holy image of the infant Jesus will again enshrined in His pedestal for the rest of the year.
The civic parade, or the famous Biniray Festival will happen on Saturday, January 11.
