As part of their local youth programs, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Linawan in San Andres, Romblon distributed plantable pencils and pairs of slippers to some elementary students of their barangay.
SK chair Arlyn Joy Bolon said that pairs of slippers were given to 64 Kindergarten to Grade 1 students of Linawan Elementary School as part of their ‘Tsinelas Project’.
“Nakikita ko kasi na ‘yung iba sira na ang mga suot na tsinelas kapag pumupunta ng school, kaya naisip ko itong project na ito. Kahit maliit, alam ko naman na malaking tulong na ito sa mga mahihirap nating mga kababayan (I saw some of the students walking to school with torn slippers that’s why I decided to push this project. Even though this is just a small project, I know that this will be a big help to our poor community),” Bolon told PIA-Romblon in an interview, Tuesday.
Aside from the ‘Tsinelas Project’, the Sangguniang Kabataan of Linawan also distributed eco-pensils, which serve dual purpose – writing and planting, as part of their ‘Eco-Pencil Project’. The lead-free pencils contain seeds of various plants such as Oregano, Tomato, Forget me not, Sunflower, Thyme, Bell Pepper, and Mint. When the pencil becomes too short and can no longer be sharpened, the students can bury the tip in a pot of soil.
Bolon, who is also the Federation President of the Sangguniang Kabataan of San Andres, added that she will launch the same project in the entire municipality.
