The Department of Education – Division of Romblon (DepEd-Romblon) together with Private Schools Association of Romblon (PSAR) gathered student leaders from 10 private secondary schools in Romblon Province for a two-day leadership training and seminar held from August 31 to September 1.
At least 196 Supreme Student Government (SSG) officers from private secondary schools in the islands of Sibuyan, Romblon, and Tablas attended the leadership seminar held at Virginia Centurione Bracelli School in Odiongan town, said PSAR President Ricmel Falqueza.
“The PSAR and DepEd Romblon acknowledges the important role that Leadership plays in the educational system. As such, the Supreme Student Gov’t for secondary level have been established, which is miniature in itself of the Philippine Gov’t. However, one main problem being encountered by elected officers is the lack of experiences being in such position and as such, it results to lack of confidence by SSG officers leading to inefficient and ineffctive leadership,” Falqueza told PIA-Romblon.
Falqueza added that this seminar may help resolve the problems encountered by the Supreme Student Government (SSG) and echoed DepEd’s objective to sharpen the skills of the Philippines’ future leaders.
“The seminar’s end goal is to empower our students as efficient and effective leaders of the student government., which for a long term goal, will enable them to become responsible and competent leaders of the country in the future,” he said.
Student leaders were trained on how to become a millennial leader, a servant leader, and an agent of change. They were also briefed about basic Parliamentary Rules and Procedures and were taught on creating an action plan that will be usefull when they go back to their respective schools.
