On its 10th year of spreading MADgic throughout the Philippines. I am MAD (Making A Difference) kicked off its celebration with their first camp for 2019 in the breathtaking Island of Sibuyan in Romblon.
The two-day outreach camp was held last May 3-4 at Magdiwang Elementary School. 50 MAD kids ages 10-12 years old attended the program.
On the first day, everything about MAD were acquainted. Afterwhich, the kids were engaged in fun-filled MAD activities where skills, values and personality manifested as they learned things like valuing their dreams deeply, unity in diversity and to be a benevolent person for the community. The 10 commitments of making a difference were also taught to the kids and they were also given interactive booklets and story books.
On the last day, volunteers prepared a skit where it tells a story about believing in one’s dream. The kids were given a chance to foster creativity as they created their own bookmark with their version of desired dream or path.
In the highlights of the camp, kids were oriented to rebuild or reconnect the string that binds them to their parent which is love. Parents and kids were both surprised and emotional. Both sides were also given the opportunity to share their thoughts about the experience.
And before the camp ended.
A legacy will be remembered (MADhandog) as the volunteers donated MAD bags to the kids with complete set of school supplies. Parents, moreover the kids, were so blessed and joyful as their smiles and happiness cannot be measured.
The MAD volunteers are grateful to all the sponsors and donors, to the warm accomodation and to all the persons who made this MADcamp and MADventure so successful and memorable.
“Thank you po sa MAD, dahil tinuruan nyo po kami maging mabuti.” -Jonella, a kid making a difference.
