The Department of Tourism (DOT) in partnership with the Department of Public Works & Highways (DPWH) is proposing Php5.9 billion tourism road infrastructure projects (TRIP) that will further boost tourism development in the region.
The DOT-DPWH convergence will promote rural and value chain development toward increasing agricultural and rural enterprise productivity and community-based tourism. TRIP covers tourism road projects leading to airports and seaports and tourism destinations.
For FY 2019, a total of 76 projects are proposed in the region. Palawan took the lion share of the convergence program with approximately Ph3.06 billion for its 38 total projects.
Of the eight congressional districts, Palawan 2nd district and Oriental Mindoro 2nd district were noted to have the highest amounts allocated for road projects with Ph2.45 billion and Ph2.4 billion respectively.
The other TRIP projects proposed in the region are in Occ. Mindoro with 3 projects; Oriental Mindoro – 24 projects; Romblon – 10 projects; and, Marinduque – 1 project. (VASM/PIA-MIMAROPA)
